By George, I Think Liberty Tree Tavern’s Got It
Who doesn’t love an all-you-care-to-eat Disney dining situation? You go in knowing that you’re paying a flat fee to have all the food brought to your table, after all. There are Disney dining locations, however, that have gotten a bad reputation of serving you all you want to eat of food that’s lacking in the flavor department. Magic Kingdom’s Liberty Tree Tavern is one of those venues, so it was only right that I stopped by for a meal to check out the experience for myself.
The Environment
We snagged a spot on the walk-up list on a Sunday evening and were seated before long, which started the meal off on the right foot. While you can get the same menu next door at The Diamond Horseshoe, Liberty Tree’s themed dining rooms (each honoring a different historical figure like Jefferson, Franklin, or Betsy Ross) offer a more immersive experience, in my mind.
We were seated in the Jefferson Room, complete with artwork and colonial artifacts. Be ye warned: this space is all hardwood and no carpet, so the noise level can rise to bowling-alley levels when the room fills up. If you prefer quieter dining, request a table in one of the carpeted upper rooms.
The Meal
As I mentioned, Liberty Tree Tavern’s menu is all-you-care-to-eat with a flat price. Currently, launch and dinner at the restaurant are $42 per adult and $23 per child. You’ll be served the Declaration Salad, which consists of mixed greens, dried cranberries, cheese, and a house-made honey-shallot dressing. The main course is called the Patriot’s Platter. You’ll find roasted turkey, pot roast, oven-roasted pork, herb stuffing, green beans, macaroni & cheese, and mashed potatoes in this round, and it’s a sight to behold when it all lands on the table. Friends, the dessert is the stuff of legends, and is worth the price of admission all on its own. The Ooey Gooey Toffee Cake is meant to be savored, and I’ll have more to say about its magic in a moment.
The meal begins with warm, buttery herb rolls. Your meal also comes with your choice of soda, lemonade, milk, coffee or tea. The Declaration Salad had a bright, slightly sweet flavor thanks to that onion-forward dressing, and our server Ben (more on him soon!) brought out extra plates and plenty of fresh rolls to get us started.
Thanksgiving on a Plate
The main course is essentially a Thanksgiving sampler platter, which I wasn’t mad about in the least. If you love carbs, this meal will speak your love language. The pot roast was fork-tender and flavorful, and the stuffing had that just-right balance of herbs and crunch from the inclusion of fresh celery. Unfortunately, the turkey was just standard, but was improved greatly when paired with the savory brown gravy. Pro tip: pour generously.
The mac and cheese was a creamy hit, and will be devoured by any kid (or kid at heart) at the table. The mashed potatoes were skin-on and rich in flavor. Even the green beans, dressed in Parmesan cheese, were a pleasant surprise.
Save Room. Seriously.
Dessert is where Liberty Tree Tavern shines brightest. The Ooey Gooey Toffee Cake is rich, warm, sweet, and exactly as indulgent as it sounds. Picture a chewy vanilla-toffee cake topped with chocolate sauce, toffee bits, and vanilla ice cream, all served in its own little skillet. Honestly, it could be one of the best desserts on Walt Disney World property.
A Quick Note on Accessibility
Restrooms are located upstairs, and the staircase is steep. I’ve been told that there’s a small elevator that’s available to take guests to the upstairs bathroom, but it’s worth noting that If anyone in your party needs a truly accessible option, the nearest one is outside the restaurant in the covered walkway between Frontierland and Adventureland.
The Real MVP: Cast Member Ben
Dining at Liberty Tree might not have been the same without Ben, our server. Ben has served guests at Liberty tree for over 18 years. He made us feel welcome, relaxed, and completely unrushed, which is something that isn’t always guaranteed at Disney restaurants. From extra rolls to thoughtful pacing, Ben was an absolute gem and made our visit feel extra special.
Final Thoughts: Worth the Price?
If you’re looking for a cozy, classic American meal that’s hearty and consistent, Liberty Tree Tavern is a great pick. While some of the proteins didn’t wow, the experience, service, and that dessert more than made up for it.
