Dining at Disney Springs? Don’t Skip The Polite Pig!
With a wealth of culinary choices in Disney Springs, it can be hard to pick just the right one for your visit. I’m here today to advocate for a fast-casual favorite of mine that’s sure to have something on the menu for everyone: The Polite Pig.
The Polite Pig is a sister of Orlando local favorite The Ravenous Pig, so if you’re wanting a meal that reflects Central Florida flavors, this is it. It’s hard to go wrong with any of the choices on the extensive menu; however, there is a Market Side of which I advise you to stay clear.
Speaking of Market Sides, please be sure to pick at least one to enjoy with your meal. They’re $6 each, and are large enough to share. And if it strikes your fancy, you can make an entire meal out of three of those Market Sides.
Please do not waste one of your precious Market Side choices on the BBQ Waffle Fries, however. They’re likely to arrive to your table less than warm and with just a dusting of a dry rub that does nothing to differentiate them from what you might get at any fast food chain.
My favorite Market Side thus far are the Crispy Brussel Sprouts. They are lacquered in whiskey-caramel and roasted until golden brown. Isn’t it wonderful that we as human beings know how to make brussel sprouts appetizing now? Please don’t talk to me about the boiled variety I had to eat in the late 70s. Ahem. The BBQ Cauliflower Market Side is also quite good.
There are sandwiches and entrées/platters galore here at The Polite Pig. My favorite sandwich is the Southern Pig. Nothing beats their pulled pork, and when it’s paired with their mustard-based barbecue sauce, it causes taste buds to sing. Their vinegary Fennel-apple slaw is added to the sandwich, but if you’d rather have it on the side, they’ll do that for you. The whole thing is topped with half of a pickle, and it’s truly is something to savor. In fact, just sitting here writing this makes me want to go straight over there and get the sandwich right now.
If you’re looking for an entrée that will fill you up and fuel you for the rest of your Disney Springs day, you can’t go wrong with the Smoked Turkey Breast platter. It comes with a jalapeño cornbread muffin, their Signature Polite slaw, and a Market Side of your choice. The turkey is moist, plentiful and flavorful, and the citrus rub used during its preparation shines through.
If you’re a bourbon fan, please know that they have an extensive indoor/outdoor bar that’s dedicated to nothing but bourbon. Their selection is vast, so be sure to leave enough time to peruse the menu before making your decision.
If you roll into The Polite Pig with an extra large appetite, don’t miss the Butcher Board on the menu. For $44, you’ll get a meal fit for two that consists of Pork Shoulder, Smoked Chicken, Brisket and BBQ Cheddar Sausage with Slaw, House Pickles, two cornbread muffins and a choice of two Market Sides. You can also add ribs ($7) or Smoked Turkey ($5) to the Butcher Board. It’s a feast!
Don’t miss the chance to sit by the show kitchen windows; it’s so much fun to watch the team prepare all of the delicious food. There are five kids meals being offered, as well as a few desserts. All this, plus air conditioning and friendly team members, means that you really can’t go wrong.
When you stop by, please be sure to try their barbecue sauce selection. Our server brought us a cup of each, and it was so much fun to try them all!
