Flying Fish Makes Your Disney Fine Dining Wishes Come True!

October 14, 2024

I don’t know about you, but I think that every table service meal at Walt Disney World is a special occasion. Number one: you’re in a Walt Disney World restaurant. Number two: you’re either getting to revisit favorite dishes or try new Disney dishes; whichever the case, there’s great potential for an incredible meal. Now, as Walt Disney World fans, we know that doesn’t quite always work out. There are some meals that we’ll have in the Most Magical Place on Earth that we would care to never repeat again (Turf Club Bar and Grill, I’m looking at you). That being said, there is one very special occasion Signature restaurant on Walt Disney World property that always rings loud and clear as one you should not miss. Are you ready? It’s time for dinner at Flying Fish.

First things first; we have to talk about the atmosphere within the restaurant itself. It’s warm and convivial and it’s almost like you’re returning home. I know that sounds hyperbolic, but I promise you it isn’t. You’re immediately enveloped in a sense of comfort. The cast members are beyond kind, and will make you feel relaxed and ready for a fantastic experience from the word go. The restaurant’s show kitchen is a bevy of activity at all times, and its glassy blue-tiled backdrop reminds you while you’re there that fish is the name of the game. That being said, if fish isn’t your number one go-to, please rest assured that you’ll find what you’re looking for in one of their incredible steaks. They won’t steer you wrong. (pun unintended, but it definitely made me giggle)

The bar is as equally warm and inviting, with amber colored wine bottles radiating out from the large countertop. Tall lamps dot the space, and you can enjoy the full menu from the bar. It was like friends coming back from college the night we were there, and it was so much fun to witness.

The menu is a study in perfect decision making. There’s a little bit of this and a little bit of that, and it all comes together to be a wonderful cornucopia of tastes that literally anyone in your party will enjoy.

Our most recent meal at Flying Fish had my hubby and me ordering three of their starters; two that we had had before, and one that was new to us. My husband began his meal with the Lobster Bisque ($18). If you’ve never had Lobster Bisque before, please know that while it is lobster, it doesn’t taste “fishy.” It’s the deepest, most rich soup that you’ll ever have, and it begins with an aged brandy at the bottom of the bowl, followed by the bisque, followed by a chunk of lobster. It’s delicious.

My favorite appetizer over the years has been the Tasting of Artisan Cheeses ($21). Friends, if you love cheese, please, please get this. It’s a selection of cheeses that range from mild to tart, accompanied by mustarda, honeycomb, and a bit of housemade brittle. My goodness, I’m in hog heaven when this gorgeous platter is in front of me. Your server will hand you a card with the explanation of the fine details of each cheese, and will point out what’s what. This appetizer is fancy in all of the most wonderful ways. You get to sit and savor every bite of your very fancy cheese. It’s a glorious thing.

The hit we didn’t see coming was the Slow-roasted Pork Belly ($18). GOOD. HEAVENS. If you enjoy pork belly, order this. If you’ve ordered pork belly at some point in the past and thought it to be just okay, order this. If you’ve ever thought about ordering pork belly at a restaurant at all, please order this. I knew from the first moment that my fork cut into the pork belly that it was going to be incredibly good. And friends, that pork absolutely melted in my mouth. It was divinely good, with a beautiful amount of caramelization on top and the creamiest texture. I don’t want to spoil the review, but the Slow-roasted Pork Belly was the best thing on the table. Hands down.

When it comes to entrees, you really can’t go wrong at Flying Fish. I’ve never had a dish that wasn’t beautifully made. This is Disney Signature Dining at its finest. The best of the best. My hubby’s favorite dish is the Char-crusted New York Strip. It’s his top pick as far as Walt Disney World steaks are concerned, and it’s a symphony of flavors. That char crust is insanely good, and I couldn’t recommend it more highly. This visit, Brian chose the char crust on the Filet Mignon ($59), which proved to be a masterful stroke. The best cut of steak with the best preparation left him moaning over how good it was.

I chose the Potato-wrapped Red Snapper ($58) for my entree. A moist and delicate piece of fish is wrapped in the most lovely golden brown layer of thinly-sliced potatoes. My goodness, this is good. A julienned leek fondue creates the perfect base for the substantial piece of fish. This French-inspired dish is one that I highly recommend and will order again and again.

Dessert isn’t to be missed at Flying Fish. Adrianna, our wonderful server, advised that the Florida Sunset ($13) is the perfect dessert after a large, and somewhat heavy, meal like ours. She wasn’t wrong. The light and fluffy citrus brodo paired with the creamy sweet lemon sauce was just what the doctor ordered. The icing on the cake was a press pot of the Viennese-style Flying Fish Signature Coffee Blend ($9.25).

Whew. What a meal. And, when the dinner was over and I stood up to leave, I found myself not wanting to go. The stellar meal, paired with the warm atmosphere and service, created an experience that cannot be beat.
